9-Day Rwanda Primate, Volcano & Lake Kivu Adventure

Itinerary:

Day 1 – Arrival in Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali, Rwanda’s vibrant capital, you will meet and greet with our guide and transfer to the hotel.

Depending on arrival time, enjoy a short city orientation including:

Kigali Genocide Memorial
Local craft markets
Coffee tasting experience

Overnight in Kigali.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Early morning, Drive south to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s oldest montane rainforests and a biodiversity hotspot.

You will drive through scenic tea plantations, rolling hills of Rwanda and a stop at the King’s Palace Museum will be made. Upon arrival at the guest lodge, you will check in and relax

Overnight near Nyungwe.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Walk

You will go for an early morning chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest National Park. The forest is home to over 500 chimpanzees and many other primates such as colobus monkeys and L’Hoest monkeys.

Later in the afternoon enjoy the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walkway, suspended high above the rainforest for spectacular views.

Day 4: Nyungwe to Lake Kivu

After check out, you will drive north to Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s Great Lakes and among the most beautiful inland lakes on the continent.

Upon arrival in Gisenyi (Rubavu) you will go for an afternoon Boat ride on Lake Kivu, Relax on the lakeshore and swim or kayak

Overnight at Lake Kivu.

Day 5: Lake Kivu Relaxation

Enjoy a relaxed day at Lake Kivu.

Optional activities:

Boat excursion to small islands
Visit fishing communities
Sunset cruise

Overnight at Lake Kivu.

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park & Cultural Visit

After check out, Drive to Volcanoes National Park, home of the famous mountain gorillas.

In the afternoon visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village where you will experience Traditional Rwandan dance and music, Cultural storytelling, Local crafts and community life and Traditional hunting techniques

Overnight near Volcanoes National Park.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Early morning, you will be transferred for briefing at park headquarters. You will then Proceed for the once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park to encounter endangered mountain gorillas.

You will have 1 unforgettable hour with the gorillas upon finding them. After you will retreat back to the guest lodge
