RWENZORI EXPEDITIONS -CLIMBING BEYOND LIMITS
9 Days to Margherita peak(5109m)
Itinerary:
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kasese
You will be picked up from Entebbe/Kampala and transferred to Kasese districts approximately 8-9 hours’ drive
Stop over lunch will be in Fort portal
Overnight at Ruboni community camp/Hotel Margherita
Day 2: Nyakalengijo (1615m-nyabutaba hat(2651m)
(Approximately 6-7 hours hike)
You will have breakfast meet up with the guides and porters ready to start the mystical hike.
You will start the trek through montane forests and cross the mubuku River. You will be amated by the different stones around into banks
Hike through bamboo forests and spot colobus monkeys. Rwenzori turacos and chameleons
Ready at Nyabitaba Hat (2651 m) for an overnight stay
Day 3: Nyabitaba Hat(2615m)-John Matte(3414m)
(Approximately 7-8hours hike)
Trek through the Kichuchu rocky area with stunning views of the portal peaks
Cross kichamba rock shelter and pass through the great lobelia forest.
Arrive at John matte hat (3414m) near Bujuku River
Day 4: John Bujuku Hat (3962m) Matte hat (3414m)-
(approximately 5-6 hours hike)
Trek through lower Bigo Bog, using wooden boardwalks
Reach lake Bujuku, offering incredible views of Mt. Baker, Speke and Mt. Stanely
Enjoy the breath-taking waterfalls from all over the different directions
Arrive at Bujuku Hat (3962m) for a night
Have you been to the bogs, enjoy the bog like in Rwenzori
Day 5: Bujuku hat (3962 m)-Elena hat (4541 m)
(Approximately 4-5 hours hike)
Climb through the Scotti pass, a steep rocky sector
Pass through glacial landscapes and reach Elene Hat (4541 m) the base for the Margherita ascent
Elena Hat is the base camp for margherita
Rest and prepare for the summit push
Day 6: Margherita peak (5109 m) and descend to Katandona Hat (4023 m) (Approximately 9-12 hours trekking)
Begin the Margherita peak ascend before dawn
Cross the Stanley plateau glacier using ropes, crampons and ice axes
Reach the summit of Margherita peak (5109 m) the third highest peak in Africa
Descend to Katondona Hat (4023 m) for a night
Day 7: katondana Hat (4023 m) -Guy Yeoman Hat (3261 m)
(Approximately 6-7 hours hike)
Descend through the fresh field pass with views of the Congo border
Continue through the muddy terrain to reach Guy- Yeoman Hat (3261 m)
Day 8: Guy yeoman Hat (3261 m) -Nyakalengijo (1615 m)
Final descent through bamboo forests and Mubuku valley
Return to Nyakalengija receive summit certificates and over night
Day 9: Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe
After breakfast you will be transferred to Kampala or Entebbe via Igongo cultural museum or the Equator for souvenirs.
