When planning a\u00a0holiday, we\u00a0always hope that our trip will be\u00a0as\u00a0comfortable as\u00a0possible and we\u00a0do\u00a0everything we\u00a0can to\u00a0avoid any incidents. But, as\u00a0you\u2019ll surely agree, life often makes adjustments to\u00a0even the most carefully thought-out plans. At\u00a0best, those surprises can be\u00a0merely annoying. At\u00a0worst, they can turn all of\u00a0your expectations upside down.<\/p>\n

Story 1<\/h3>\n

There was this girl, Jane, working in our department. She was a very good employee; always keen to excel and learn something new. A couple of years ago, her grandmother died and left her a luxury villa in a prestigious neighborhood. Someone from our office told Jane that she could use her inheritance as a way to radically change her life. For example, she could rent the house out and use the money to settle down in some exotic place. Of course, this was a joke, and we soon forgot about it. Until one Monday, Jane came to work with a resignation letter in one hand and a ticket to India in the other. We all wished her the best of luck!<\/p>\n

Story 2<\/h3>\n

Whenever I\u00a0end up\u00a0in\u00a0one of\u00a0those hotel rooms where the hair dryer can\u2019t be\u00a0pulled out from its socket and the coat hooks are loose, I\u00a0always think, \u201cDo\u00a0you guys honestly think\u00a0I travel without a\u00a0screwdriver?<\/p>\n

Story 3<\/h3>\n

Tourists are a peculiar folk. This story happened in the Ukrainian town of Mariupol. One foreign tourist decided to see if he could walk to the Russian town of Taganrog and back again in one day. As he set out on his journey, he joked to his wife that he was going to another town to buy some bread. Mariupol is about 30 miles from the Russian-Ukrainian border, and Taganrog is another 30 miles further away. When the guy reached the border, the guards asked him about his destination and the purpose of his visit. He answered, \u201cI\u2019m just walking to Taganrog to buy some bread!\u201d The guards began to suspect he was crazy so he gave them his wife\u2019s phone number. They called her and the conversation went something like this:<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you and your husband currently staying in Mariupol?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, but my husband is away right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere is he?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ran out of bread, so he went to Taganrog!\u201d<\/p>\n

Story 4<\/h3>\n

There is\u00a0a\u00a0theory that our universe is\u00a0infinite and because of\u00a0this, it\u00a0might contain copies of\u00a0our own planet. Just imagine it\u00a0\u2014 a\u00a0spaceship travels millions of\u00a0light-years in\u00a0search of\u00a0alien worlds…only to\u00a0touch down in\u00a0Oklahoma<\/p>\n

Story 5<\/h3>\n

I went on a tourist trip to another country recently. I had almost no knowledge of the local language so I didn\u2019t really feel comfortable being surrounded by crowds of people I couldn\u2019t understand. Also, everyone seemed a bit too carefree and cheerful for my taste. There were too many people smiling everywhere. And then, amidst all these happy, smiling faces, I suddenly heard, \u201cWhat the hell are you smiling at, weirdo?\u201d in my mother tongue. It was the best moment of the entire trip.<\/p>\n

Story 6<\/h3>\n

My\u00a0friend went to\u00a0Brazil last year. Upon his arrival, he\u00a0was immediately warned about the local crime rate. Also, he\u00a0was advised not to\u00a0visit the beaches at\u00a0night, since there was a\u00a0high risk of\u00a0bumping into one of\u00a0the numerous youth gangs. However, he\u00a0didn\u2019t heed the warnings. In\u00a0his own words, here\u2019s what came of\u00a0it, \u201cRight from the start, I\u00a0overdid it\u00a0with the sunbathing and burned my\u00a0skin pretty seriously. So\u00a0I\u00a0decided to\u00a0take my\u00a0chances and go\u00a0for a\u00a0swim at\u00a0night when there\u2019s no\u00a0sun but the water is\u00a0still warm. When I\u00a0got to\u00a0the beach, I\u00a0was immediately surrounded by\u00a0a\u00a0group of\u00a010-15\u00a0youths. They didn\u2019t waste time and immediately took my\u00a0T-shirt. This didn\u2019t stop me\u00a0from returning to\u00a0the beach the next night. Once again, the same thugs surrounded me\u00a0but this time they didn\u2019t take anything. On\u00a0my\u00a0third nighttime visit to\u00a0the shore, they simply waved at\u00a0me. And on\u00a0my\u00a0fourth, they gave me\u00a0back my\u00a0T-shirt. On\u00a0the fifth night, we\u00a0had a\u00a0drink together, something that tasted like a\u00a0mixture of\u00a0rum and brandy. Then, on\u00a0the sixth, I\u00a0brought the guys some proper alcohol and a\u00a0couple of\u00a06-packs. In\u00a0the end, I\u00a0was driven back to\u00a0the hotel in\u00a0the thugs\u2019 car, followed by\u00a0an\u00a0entourage of\u00a0scooters and mopeds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Story 7<\/h3>\n

My Russian friend told me this story from his trip to Cuba: \u201cThere I am, standing with the rest of my tourist group, listening to a smiling guide telling us about the pleasures of life on the island. Suddenly, the guide interrupts his lecture and says, \u2019We really love Russians over here. So much so, that we\u2019ve even got a saying, \u2019Russian people are famous for their ability to find a way out of any kind of trouble. The only thing they\u2019re even more famous for is their ability to find a way into every kind of trouble.\u2019 And then he looks at us, and gives us a really big smile.\u201d<\/p>\n

Story 8<\/h3>\n

Recently, my\u00a0friend and\u00a0I went on\u00a0a\u00a0trip to\u00a0Spain. To\u00a0save money, we\u00a0shared a\u00a0single room at\u00a0our Madrid hotel. The room had a\u00a0double bed that was actually 2\u00a0beds put together. Of\u00a0course, we\u00a0always moved our beds apart before going to\u00a0sleep. However, every single morning, the hotel maid unfailingly pushed the beds back together. Not only that but she also never forgot to\u00a0put a\u00a0rose on\u00a0one of\u00a0them; on\u00a0my\u00a0bed, to\u00a0be\u00a0precise.
